4 Achingly Cool Indie Couples That Give Us Serious Relationship Envy
They’re super-talented, have the writing/directing/amazing career, the so-hip-it-hurts style credentials – and each other. Meet the indie couples we want to be like (or maybe just hang out with?).
They’re super-talented, have the writing/directing/amazing career, the so-hip-it-hurts style credentials – and each other. Meet the indie couples we want to be like (or maybe just hang out with?).
1. Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig The story of how writer/director Noah Baumbach got together with his muse, indie actress Greta Gerwig, reads like an old-fashioned courtship (conducted over email, obvs). Having worked together previously, he asked her for ideas for a movie they could write together, they passed details back and forth, and the result was 2012’s sublime black and white Woody Allen-inspired movie, Frances Ha. The couple continue to work together creatively, writing 2015's Mistress America, with Noah behind the camera, and starring Greta once again.
2. Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff The love life of the coolest girl on the planet (Lena Dunham, FYI) is, thankfully, more plain sailing than her GIRLS alter ego – she’s happily shacked up with Fun guitarist Jack Antonoff since 2012. Cue that recent open love letter: ‘I literally want to know everything you have seen and what you felt like while you were seeing it,’ she wrote. ‘And I will be so much better my whole life for knowing those things.’ All together now…
3. Zoe Kazan and Paul Dano He was the gawky teen in Little Miss Sunshine, she’s the geek-chic-sporting screenwriter turned actress; together they’re the king and queen of indie cinema, and boy do those (Ruby) Sparks fly. Yep, Zoe Kazan played Paul Dano’s dream woman in her charming self-penned 2012 flick, and the duo have gone on to individual success. Paul is now on our tellies every Sunday in BBC's War and Peace, while Zoe played opposite Harry Potter himself in 2013's rom-com What If. The camera doesn’t lie... They’ve been together since 2007.
4. Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska We watched (okay, squealed) when Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska hit the red carpet at the Toronto Film Festival in 2013 for their film The Double. It was their first public appearance as a, gasp, couple. Yep, it’s not often that two super talented, super famous, but so nonchalantly cool, actors get together. The twosome have been dating ever since.
