Brit actress,Tamsin Egerton, is next on our screens in the stylish 1950’s period drama Queen & Country. We caught up with the star who spilled on her beauty secrets, swapping clothes with her BF Josh Hartnett and her favourite vintage buys…
Did you take any vintage pieces from your new film Queen and Country? “I didn’t get to keep anything, sadly. I wish I kept some of the costumes - they were so sweet. They were all from Angels The Costumiers - they have an amazing warehouse in North West London. There was a beautiful pink silk nightie I wore in the film that I loved. I think it’s beautiful how women used to go to sleep in these lovely, floor length gowns. As soon as I get home I put on my jogging bottoms and a t-shirt.”
Favourite vintage piece you own? “I mainly buy [vintage] in LA. There’s a place in Silverlake and recently I bought this almost Russian dress for $50 there. It’s quilted, red and incredibly fitted, with a ribbon round the neck. It was actually too small but I bought it anyway!”
Who’s your fashion icon? “I love the simplicity of Françoise Hardy’s look. She’s almost androgynous in her style – I find that really sexy in a girl.” How would you describe your day-to-day style? “It’s a little bit all over the place. I wear my boyfriend’s [Josh Hartnett] clothes. He has an amazing array of cashmere jumpers, which I steal a lot. His Saint Laurent one shrunk in the wash and now fits me perfectly. He said, ‘That was my favourite jumper, now it’s your favourite jumper.”
Your go-to designers? “Acne Studios is one of my favourite brands – I have a lot of their leather jackets and a few of their flats. I feel uncomfortable in heels - I’m 5ft 10in, so I’m always in flats. I’m not good at accessorizing, but & Other Stories rings are awesome. I’ve bought a lot of stuff from there recently.”
Make-up bag essential… “I cannot live without my Diorshow Black Out waterproof mascara. I have been using it for years. It is very dramatic, just like putting black glue on your eyelashes, and you don’t need to apply mascara for three days.”
And how do you take care of your blonde hair? “I try to use natural products like Pureology shampoo. My hairs naturally like a dark blonde, but I had to dye my hair platinum for my role in St.Trinians. I think there were tears. But now I love it.”

What do you keep on your bedside table? “Earplugs. I have a French bulldog that sleeps with me and he snores very loudly. And a book - I love learning new things. When I’m tired, it calms me down more than Candy Crush. At the moment, I’m reading Inheritence by Sharon Maelem, which is about how our genes affect us. It’s definitely not a light holiday read!” What would people be surprised to know about you? “I can get my legs around my head. I do Pilates with a personal trainer in LA. Oh God, I sound so bouji right now!” You can read our full interview with Tamsin Egerton in the July issue of Marie Claire, out now. Queen and Country is in cinemas from 12 June.
