Selena Gomez talks weight and what would happen if someone asked her to go on a diet
And it’s pretty empowering.
And it’s pretty empowering.
Like many A-list stars, Selena Gomez has had her fair (or very unfair) share of body shaming and with her career starting at the age of nine, she has been enduring weight comments and pressures longer than most.
While we don’t think we could handle the pressures of being in the spotlight, Selena seems to have got it down to a fine art, adopting a no tolerance attitude - and we love her for it.
During a recent interview on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, Selena explained, ‘If anybody told me to go on a diet I don’t think they’d be working with me any more.’ She continued: ‘That’s not how it’s going to work. I think it’s very overwhelming. I have a lot of amazing people around me…that kind of encourage me to know what’s really good for the choices I make for myself.’
‘I haven't really been all over the place lately and that's kind of intentional,’ she said about staying out of the spotlight. ‘I think it's important to balance out where I am and I've been doing this for a really long time and my sanity has meant everything to me, and a lot of that is my faith.’
‘I took 90 days off. I went away. I was very vocal about it because to me, where I get my confidence is my vulnerability. I can’t sit there and pretend that everything is good because I’ve done that for eight years. And it doesn’t really work.’
While inspired, people weren’t surprised by Selena’s comments, with the 24-year-old always having been refreshingly honest about her body image.

‘I feel very empowered and confident and comfortable with where I am. And I think it took me a long while to get there because, you know, the past year was so interesting because I've never been body-shamed before’, Selena said during an interview at On Air With Ryan Seacrest. ‘I did gain weight, but I don’t care.’
‘It wasn't about how I gained weight, it was about how I embraced it. And that's just kind of my approach.’
