Selena Gomez has broken her social media silence with a personal announcement
'It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming.'
'It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming.'
Selena Gomez is one of the most talked-about women in the world, until very recently holding the title of most followed person on Instagram - 144 million followers, people!
So why has Selena Gomez slipped down to number two, behind Cristiano Ronaldo? Well, it’s probably got something to do with her social media silence, taking a break to focus on her mental health.
The Wolves singer has been MIA since October when it was reported that she had been admitted to a mental health facility following a reported ‘emotional breakdown’.
The 26-year-old was reportedly hospitalised twice in two weeks, with the most recent being down to the breakdown.
The first hospital visit is said to have taken place in the last week of September, when according to the TMZ, the singer was ‘despondent and emotional over an alarmingly low white blood cell count in the wake of her kidney transplant’.
After being released a few days later, Selena was reportedly ‘re-admitted late the following week because her low blood cell count persisted’ and ‘it threw Selena into a downward emotional spiral’.

According to the outlet, the It Ain’t Me singer wanted to leave hospital and had an ‘emotional breakdown’ when she wasn’t able to.
Now, however, Selena is back, returning to Instagram to break her social media silence with a life update.
'It’s been a while since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support,' Selena posted. 'Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth. It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.'
Sending love and support to Selena!
