Serena Williams has just announced her engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and to make it that bit more special she broke the news with an original poem that she published to Reddit. The poem reads: ‘I came home A little late Someone had a bag packed for me And a carriage awaited Destination: Rome To escort me to my very own "charming" Back to where our stars first collided And now it was full circle At the same table we first met by chance This time he made it not by chance But by choice Down on one knee He said 4 words And I said yes.'

Robbie Williams & Ayda Field
We never thought we would see the day when bachelor Robbie Williams tied the knot, so when he came to pop the question to girlfriend Ayda Field, we were glad to hear he had something pretty special up his sleeve. A firm believe in mysticism, the star took four queen cards from a deck, and handed them to Ayda. And when she turned them over, each had a word written on it, which spelled out Will You Marry Me. 'When we first started going out, this weird thing would happen.' Robbie explained, giving the reason for his unusual proposal choice. 'When I had a deck of cards - I would split the pack and always come up with a Queen of Hearts. Because I'm into mysticism, it filled my heart and made me stop worrying about whether I was with the right person.'

Pink & Cary Hart
Pink has never been the girly-girly type so when it came to her engagement with motocross racer Carey Hart, she took matters into own hands and proposed to him. As he made laps around the track during a race, the songstress held up a sign that said: 'Will You Marry Me?' When he failed to pull over, she flipped the sign over to say: 'I'm Serious.' He then immediately quit the race and ran over to accept her proposal. You go, girl!

Heidi Klum & Seal
Seal pulled out all the stops for his extraordinary proposal to Heidi Klum, and when we say he pulled out all the stops, we sure as hell mean it. The singer whisked his supermodel girlfriend off in a helicopter and, while most of us would probably be chuffed with just that, he didn't stop there. He flew Heidi to the top of a 14,000 ft glacier where he had arranged for a specially-made igloo to be built. Inside was a bed covered in rose petals, dozens of candles and plenty of food and Champagne for them to celebrate with. Heidi later described it as a 'once-in-a-lifetime event' - we'll say!

Russell Brand & Katy Perry
After just four months together, Russell Brand proposed to girlfriend Katy Perry while on a romantic break in India. The TV funny man had treated his bride-to-be to the getaway as a Chirtmas gift, then popped the question while away. Reports suggest romantic Russell proposed during a spiritual ceremony on New Year's Eve, which saw their relationship blessed by a love guru. Sadly less than two years later, the couple split.

Katie Holmes & Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise didn't waste much time before he proposed to Katie Holmes when, after a mere two months of dating, he popped the question at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The smitten actor also treated his bride-to-be to a candle-lit meal inside the Tower at the top-notch eatery, Le Jules Verne. Tom was so excited about their betrothal that he spilled all the beans at a press conference the next morning, where we were forced to witness the pair smooching and fawning all over each other - again!

Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Philippe
Their marriage may have since ended but Reese will never forget the moment Ryan Phillipe proposed to her. The golden couple were staying in a romantic B&B (called The Planter's Inn for those of you taking notes) when he popped the question whilst serving her waffles with strawberries and cream in bed. An oldie but a goodie!
BEAUTIFUL CELEBRITY ENGAGEMENT RINGS
Christina Aguilera & Jordan Bratman
They may have split now, but Christina Aguilera's diva heart was well and truly melted when her music executive boyfriend Jordan Bratman proposed in one of the most touching ways imaginable. Whilst the pair were on holiday in Carmel, California, he stuffed their hotel room full with rose petals and gift boxes. Each box contained a present and a self-penned poem describing his feelings for the songstress. To her delight, when she finally opened the last box, she found a stunning five-carat ring and Jordan proceeded to get down on one knee and ask her to marry him. We're welling up over here!
Courteney Cox & David Arquette
Funny man David Arquette tapped into his softer side when he popped the question to Courteney Cox. He proposed on a beach in Florida and arranged for fireworks to go off at the precise moment he asked her to marry him. So sweet!

Neve Campbell and John Light
Actors simply lurve to put on a performance so that's why British actor John Light got down on bended knee and recited Shakespeare when he proposed to Neve Campbell. Luckily, being a fellow thespian, she lapped it up and the couple are still going strong years later.
Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey
Those of you who watched Newlyweds will already know how Nick Lachey proposed to Jessica Simpson. For those of you not in the loop, the former 98 Degrees member and the pop princess agreed to get hitched whilst chilling out on a yacht off the coast of Hawaii. At the time, Jessica described her ring as 'gorgeous and so shiny,' and of her soon-to-be husband? She said he was her Prince Charming. How things change!
Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott
Be warned, the following proposal is so romantic that some may find it all together gag-worthy. Dean McDermott asked Tori Spelling to marry him after only three months together and certainly did it in a way she couldn't refuse. The actor took Tori on a horse-drawn carriage ride down a half-a-mile-long path that was lit with Christmas lights. It led to a table surrounded by Christmas trees where he surprised her with a diamond and sapphire ring. Don't say we didn't warn you!
