And everyone is still talking about it

Saturday Night Live is known for attracting the A-list crowd, getting the absolute biggest names to make cameos – everyone from Leonardo DiCaprio to Madonna – even Hillary Clinton has taken to the SNL stage on more than one occasion for a skit.

The most recent A-listers to grace the SNL stage, however, were Hollywood couple Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, dubbed by SNL as ‘The Livelies.’

The pair appeared on Saturday night’s show, hosted by actress Melissa McCarthy.

With US Mother’s Day falling just the day after the live show, Melissa used her opening monologue to champion all of the mothers in the room, even taking one on a surprise backstage tour of SNL, where a few big names made surprise cameos.

Melissa and Joan (the chosen audience member who actually turned out to be the mother of one of SNL’s head writers) first met Alec Baldwin dressed in his Donald Trump attire, before being greeted by girl band Haim – all of whom were preparing to perform in that episode.

The real surprise of the evening however, was Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who Melissa and Joan stumbled across hanging out backstage.

‘Oh my god it’s Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, what are you guys doing here?’ Melissa asked as the couple hugged Joan and wished her a Happy Mother’s Day.

‘You invited us,’ Ryan joked back with a deadpan expression, to which Blake chipped in, ‘Yeah are you going to get us seats?’

After telling the Hollywood couple that the best seats were backstage, Melissa whispered to Joan, ‘I may have been drinking when I invited them.’

This is not Melissa McCarthy’s first time at the helm of the show, in fact it is her fifth time hosting SNL, and she has even been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy serious for her previous work on the show.
