This is the most streamed song on Spotify
But it's probably not a surprise when you think about it
But it's probably not a surprise when you think about it
Last year, we saw Ed Sheeran crowned as the most streamed artist of all time on Spotify – but it seems like another artist could be hot on his heels.
Spotify has just revealed that Drake’s song One Dance is the most streamed song in the platform’s history, racking up a whopping 882 millions plays since it was released back in April. The song finally toppled Lean On, Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s EDM chart topper featuring MØ, which had held the top spot since 2015.
Of course, some people did see this coming – One Dance was previously named Spotify’s top-played song of the summer, foreshadowing its new title as the most streamed track on the music platform ever.
However, it’s not the first time Drake has broken records with his popular track either. One Dance is one of the longest-running single ever to top the UK Charts, staying at number one for fifteen consecutive weeks. Popular around the world the track also reached the number one spot in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland and the United States.
2016 has been a turbulent year for Drake thanks to a combination of multiple career highs and several personal lows. While the Canadian artist has been topping the charts, it doesn’t look like this success has also translated to his personal life – especially when it comes to his relationship with Bajan chart-topper and global super-star Rihanna.
Admittedly, Rihanna and Drake have had an on-off relationship from the start. Despite Drake’s public protestations of love back at the VMAs 2016 when he presented RiRi with the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, it seems like the couple haven’t managed to make it work. Sob.
