Everyone loves a good tune, but music can also be a powerful way to fight stress and anxiety. Many of us have a go-to playlist to boost our mood on a bad day — and it looks like we’ll need to make at least one addition, because researchers have found the perfect song to listen to if you need to relax.
Weightless by Marconi Union has been shown to reduce anxiety in listeners by up to 65%, according to Inc. The song, which was composed with the help of sound therapists, helps insomnia and reduces stress levels — plus, it’s really beautiful. In other words, you need it in your life.
Every note in the eight-minute song is designed to lower your heart rate and blood pressure — ultimately reducing your body’s level of the stress hormone cortisol, according to The Telegraph.
There is one caveat — researchers advise against listening to Weightless while you’re driving because it’s truly that relaxing.
Although there’s no quick fix for depression or anxiety disorder, listening to music is a powerful coping method that’s easy to incorporate into your daily routine, and also swearing can help to beat stress.

We all have our comfort songs, but Inc also provided a playlist with additional songs that will lower your heart rate and ease your anxiety levels. Some of them may already be in your library — the list includes Someone Like You by Adele, Pure Shores by All Saints, and Strawberry Swing by Coldplay.
I’m in a hurry to add Weightless to my collection — after just one listen, I can see (or, rather, hear) exactly why it’s an important self-care tool to for anyone who struggles with anxiety or insomnia.
