It was a great night for female-led drama, with Big Little Lies, The Handmaid's Tale and Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird dominating the top spots
In an evening dominated by protests against sexual harassment and inequality, it was fitting that dramas and movies led by women scooped most of the top prizes on Sunday night. The Golden Globes 2018 winners list saw Big Little Lies and The Handmaid's Tale clean up in the television categories, with recognition for Best Drama, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress (and Actor) and Best Miniseries.
Before the ceremony there had been disappointment that no women had made it into the Best Director category despite a groundbreaking year for female directors - a point brilliantly alluded to on stage by Natalie Portman, who introduced the category as 'all male' - but in the film slots Greta Gerwig's excellent coming-of-age directorial debut Lady Bird still made a splash by winning Best Film and Best Actress.
The biggest winner of the night? Martin McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri which picked up the highest number of awards (four) including Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor.

Despite being tipped as an awards season favourite (and potential Best Film frontrunner at the Oscars) Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk failed to pick up any Golden Globes on Sunday night. The same goes for Jordan Peele's Get Out and Call Me By Your Name - the latter film missed out despite huge awards buzz and three nominations.
