The rumour mill has started for the casting for the next American Crime Story based on the 2007 murder of legendary fashion designer Gianni Versace.
Who's the front runner? Lady Gaga.
The singer is rumoured to be playing Donatella Versace in the hotly-anticipated biopic. Gaga and Versace's friendship has been widely documented - she even wrote a song about the Italian deisgner on her 2013 album ARTPOP - and speculation immediately sprung online linking Gaga to the role.
Adding further feul to the rumours is the fact that Gaga has teamed up with the TV mogul twice before, appearing in Season 6, American Horror Story: Roanoke, and Season 5, American Horror Story: Hotel, - for which she won a Golden Globe. With their matching cornsilk hair and adventurous sense of style it seems like the perfect casting. Watch this space, people.

Earlier this year, when BBC2 broadcast The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, we were hooked to our televisions. The series told the story of the trial of OJ Simpson for the murder of his wife Nicole in what was described at the time as ‘the crime of the century’.

What's more, the show finally put the UK’s favourite Friends character back on our screen in the form of Ross Geller, a.k.a David Schwimmer, who played Robert Kardashian in the series.
And now, it has been revealed that American Crime Story will be returning for a second and third series, with the latter focusing on the world of fashion.
Addressing the shooting of Gianni Versace back in 2007, the third season will chronicle his murder at the hands of the serial killer Andrew Cunanan. Gianni Versace was Cunanan’s fifth (and final) victim, and the murder resulted in an eight-day manhunt for Cunanan. In the end, it was Cunanan’s suicide which brought the search to a close.
The founder of the Versace fashion house, Gianni was just fifty years old when he died – a tragedy for both the family and the fashion world. However, the reason for his murder still remains a mystery - an ambiguity which the new American Crime Story series may finally shed some light on.
The People v. OJ Simpson won an amazing 10 Emmys and attracted huge ratings in both the United States and the UK, so it came as no surprise when season two was fast-tracked for production. Focusing on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, season two will examine all sides of the tragedy, from hospital overcrowding to the treatment of the newly-created ‘weather refugees’.
In the meantime, we intrigued to see who lands the role of Donatella Versace…
