The world has their list of celebrity hair icons, and you know which ones to turn to for beach tousles, curls, bobs etc, so when Selena Gomez and Nina Dobrev, who we normally categorise into the cascading brunette hair box, debuted their latest looks recently, the world did a double-take. Because, yes, these two have decided to forego their long hair for a long bob (AKA 'lob'.)

Just a week after news broke that Selena Gomez and The Weeknd *may* now be dating, everyone's now talking about the singer's new hair. She recently debuted her long bob earlier this month but it seems she's taken to the scissors again to get more layers put in and length taken off according to this Instagram selfie posted by Celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo.

And, Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev debuted her long bob last week with this photo.

According to her longtime hair stylist Riawna Capri, Nina wanted to cut her hair to mark her 28th birthday. She told PeopleStyle, 'Nina has been itching to cut her hair off for years, even before the big trend started. It’s 2017, new year, her birthday is Jan 9, so we did a birthday chop!'

'Nina’s been waiting to cut her hair short for years, but couldn’t due to projects, Capri added, describing the bob as an 'asymmetrical, textured choppy yet blunt bob.'

'This is the year things are getting bolder and thicker. 2016 has been light, wispy and airy. This year, think more structure - blunt yet still textured. Short hair gives a great strong focus to the face, neck and shoulders, something Nina hasn’t ever had. Her hair is now fun and sexy with a feminine edge.'

She even posted a timelapse video of her getting her hair did, complete with a pretty impressive glam squad and room service during the whole shebang:
