Thought streaking was just for summer? Well Santa is in for a surprise as the new wave of hair chalks could be about to change your mind.
Thought streaking was just for summer? Well Santa is in for a surprise as the new wave of hair chalks could be about to change your mind.
Ok, we admit, think of hair chalking and hazy summer days spent frolicking at festivals may spring to mind, but as both the AW13 and SS14 shows bear testament to, colourful coifs can span all seasons. After all, if you can’t go a little OTT at Christmas, when can you? So swot up on your pantones and start co-ordinating your hair with your outfit, because whether it’s pastel pretty or rainbow bright, chalking is the way to get the party started. Here are our favourite newbies:
STRUCTURE Pigment Pencils, £18.95. Give your hair a more precise art attack with a pack of these three colourful pencils (purple, pink and blue) which can be applied directly to your tresses and wash out after a single shampoo.
Bleach London Super Cool Colour, £5.00. The achingly hip salon in London’s East End that first started the craze has finally brought out at-home colour creams which come in a dazzling array of 12 colours and fade within 2-10 washes. Our favourite for the party season? ‘I Saw Red’.
Bumble and Bumble Spraychalk in Cobalt, £15 We saw them being wielded at the shows in New York and now these nifty, quick-dry aerosols have finally made it to our shores. With a limited edition collection of four colours that wash out after one shampoo, simply spritz and admire (and if you’re feeling particularly crafty, employ the use of a festive stencil). Too much? Never!
L’Oreal Professionnel HAIRchalk in Garden Party, £15. When backstage staple L’Oreal Professionnel got in on the act we knew chalking was here to stay. With 8 shades (including a slightly less eye-popping black) that last up to three shampoos, you can go as bold or subtle as you dare.
