Kristen Stewart: 7 Things We Can Learn From This Very Reluctant Style Icon
These are the fashion rules, according to Kristen Stewart - the world’s most reluctant style icon.
These are the fashion rules, according to Kristen Stewart - the world’s most reluctant style icon.
1. Do red carpet differently to anyone else
This screen siren may not be the most natural red carpet poser (something she's happy to admit) but somehow her awkward demeanor and indifferent attitude to flashing bulbs means she makes black tie dressing actually look cool. Take the Zuhair Murad nude number she rocked for the LA premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. This was basically lingerie masquerading as a frock - naff on anyone else, ice-cool on K-Stew.
2. Always choose comfort over style
Before Chanel made trainers couture and cool, Kristen teamed a stunning sheer Marchesa dress with a pair of bashed up old sneakers on the red carpet. Casual.
2. Go-to skinny jeans, always
Ok, so this may seem obvious but Kristen’s never without ‘em. Skinny jeans and a band tee are the key components to this star's off-duty style. So simple. So K-Stew.

3. Embrace boyfriend clothes
Scrap boyfriend jeans, Kristen has a boyfriend wardrobe. Ok, so maybe not literally (though, we did love it when she pinched Robert Pattinson's clothes), but we’ve no doubt she picks things up from the guys' section. Harrington jackets, plaid shirts and Vans - we love it.
4. Wear nothing but Converse
All hail the First Lady of Converse. She’s paired them with six-figure dresses, cut-off denim and tracksuits. The question is, does she ever take them off? Unlikely.
5. Own Ugly-pretty...
...Or as the Fench would say 'jolie-laide'. Take Kristen's head-to-toe Chanel look from the Metiers d'Art fashion show at Fair Park in Dallas earlier this year: Camel leather trousers, a grey cropped sweat, and a different grey knit around the waist. That’s bad fashion maths, but somehow on Kristen it all adds up.
6. The cap
Oh, to be a girl who can pull of the reversed-cap trick. The backwards cap. Entirely laughable on anyone else, but, on this Californian tomboy, it’s authentic and achingly cool.
7. Do what feels right
Lobbing your hair off one hour before you're due to sit FROW at the Chanel couture show? Just so bad-ass.
