Marc Jacobs' future at Louis Vuitton has been the talk of Fashion Month. Finally, it's been confirmed he IS leaving the brand...
Marc Jacobs WILL leave Louis Vuitton, a spokesperson for the designer has finally confirmed. After weeks of speculation, and Marc's future being the talk of Fashion Month, it's been announced that he'll leave the French fashion brand to focus on his own successful label.
The shock news was confirmed this morning by LVMH chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault.
Marc has been with Louis Vuitton for 16 years. He presented his final show for Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week's final day in the capital.
While Marc's replacement is unlikely to be announced any time soon, rumours in the industry point towards former Balenciaga creative director Nicolas Ghesquière taking his place.
Our acting fashion features director Victoria Moss explains: 'Fashion is an industry fuelled by gossip so it wasn't huge surprise that this morning's epic Louis Vuitton show (think funereal showgirls walking out in front of the blackened carcusses of show-props past) was Marc Jacobs' au revoir from the house.
'He turned a luxe luggage company into a fully fledged ready to wear super–brand which is no mean feat. Marc is one of fashion's most inventive power players – his white-hot ticket shows for Vuitton became the ultimate in 'what will he do next?' – and never disappointed or failed to set the trend tone of the season. Whoever takes on the LV mantel has some seriously big shoes to fill.'
