Madonna health takes downturn

Marie Claire News: Cannes Film Festival 2008 Rex Features

It has not been a good year for Madonna; rumours of marital problems and home-wrecking affairs with Alex Rodriguez have filled the press, and a tell-all book from her own brother have reportedly taken their toll on the singer's health, ahead of her new tour.

The Sun reports that the Pop Queen could be headed for a complete breakdown, with a source from her tour divulging that she has been diagnosed with anaemia and is suffering from a knee injury.

'Madonna is doing less than okay' the snitch revealed, 'She's down physically and mentally. The situation with Guy is very, very tense. The way the press are going crazy with the A-Rod story, her brother’s book and her physical exhaustion are all taking their toll.'

The source adds, 'She feels nobody has taken her side. One of her closest pals says she has never seen Madonna so low.'

Madonna's Sticky & Sweet tour is due to kick off next month in Cardiff, but with doctors warning her to take it easy, it is feared a gruelling tour could cause a physical breakdown.

'Madonna was told to go soft on work and rehearsals, so she will now take one proper day off every week and go easy in the mornings,' the source reveals, 'She has been rehearsing for the tour and she is totally miserable. She has been feeling low and looking really gaunt.'

The singer has clearly taken the advice to heart. She has been spotted this week relaxing in the Hamptons with close friend Gwyneth Paltrow.

Why can't the media leave Madge alone? The constant inferences over her marriage would be enough on their own - but with a brother like hers, who needs enemies?
Madonna has worked hard to achieve her success and Guy has made some brilliant British films - let's hope they can be left alone to sort things out.
