EXCLUSIVE: Jane Taylor who has created headwear for Kate Middleton speaks to Marie Claire about working with the royal
Kate Middleton is a designer’s dream client, not only does she pull of every style with aplomb her fashion choices can set sales soaring. It’s no surprise then that milliner, Jane Taylor, who has designed headwear for Her Royal Highness, is ‘honoured’ to have worked with the royal.

We were similarly pleased that Jane was also eager to tell Marie Claire about her experiences in designing for royalty. She says: ‘Kate Middleton is very elegant and wears hats so well. It has been a real honour for her to wear my pieces.’
Duchess Kate has a bit of a fashion following within the royal family too as Zara Phillips, the Countess of Wessex and Princess Eugenie have also snapped up pieces from Jane Taylor millinery. And while these ladies may be part of the monarchy Jane reassures us that when it comes to hats their needs are identical to ours, ‘The Royals, like all of us, want to look and feel fabulous,’ she adds. ‘Confidence, expression, sophisticated and feminine.’
Another trend the Duchess of Cambridge is famed for is recycling her looks, and Jane has no qualms about the rest of us mimicking this move with our headwear. Jane tells us: ‘Certainly I think a hat can be worn more than once, it really depends on the outfit and the versatility of the hat. If the hat suits the outfit I don’t see why it can’t be worn again and again.’

With a season of outdoor events ahead of us including weddings what does Jane suggest we wear on our heads? She advises: ‘Hats can be quite a style statement! Don’t go too small- choose a hat that’s in proportion with your face and build.
‘Cocktail hats are very in at the moment, as well as large brims, low crowns or perching shapes. Fascinators are not.
‘Choose easy to wear 'on a band' styles so you aren’t inclined to fiddle with it. If you’re not confident, get advice to make sure the perfect hat is chosen for you. Once you have an ideal shape that suits your face and style, you will feel amazing!
And perhaps it can also transform us into Kate Middleton… or maybe not!
