Fifty Shades of Grey movie fans were the victims of an April Fools joke after Sheridan Smith shared the casting news

Fifty Shades of Grey movie buffs thought all their Christmasses had come at once over the Easter bank holiday after Sheridan Smith ‘confirmed’ she'd landed the lead role in the screen adaptation of the hit trilogy starring opposite Eddie Redmayne.

HAS SHAILENE WOODLEY BEEN RULED OUT OF FIFTY SHADES OF GREY MOVIE?

The actress played a little April Fools joke on Monday as she tweeted the news of her ‘new’ role writing: ‘I'm so excited to tell you that I've been cast as the lead girl in 50 shades of grey opposite Eddie Redmayne, can't wait to start filming!!’

The announcement would have come as a surprise to avid Fifty Shades of Grey movie fans, after all Sheridan Smith had not, as yet, been linked the role of Anastasia Steele. Eddie Redmayne did however hint to Marie Claire recently that he’d certainly consider the role.

EDDIE REDMAYNE EYES UP FIFTY SHADES OF GREY ROLE

After a frenzy erupted on Twitter, Sheridan felt the need to let everyone know the truth and denied she’d been cast in the movie adding: ‘In my dreams! Haha, I just got that in a minute before midday. Happy April fools twits ;) Xxxxxxxx’

Could this be a double bluff though? The speculation continues…
