Angelina Jolie gave a moving speech about Pakistani schoolgirl activist Malala Yousafzai, who has launched a charity to fund girls' education, at the 2013 Women in the World Gala.
The actress, who looked radiant in a conservative Saint Laurent dress, took to the stage at the annual event in New York to honour the brave 15-year-old, who was shot in the head by the Taliban in October in retribution for her work to promote girls' education.

Angelina and Malala used the event to announce the first grant that her charity, the Malala Fund, would be making.
A donation of US$45,000 (£29,500) will be given to an unnamed organisation in the Swat Valley in Pakistan to support the education of 40 girls aged five to 12 who would otherwise be forced into domestic labour.

In a video played to an audience of thousands, Malala said: 'Announcing the first grant of the Malala Fund is the happiest moment in my life.
'I invite all of you to support the Malala Fund and let us turn the education of 40 girls into 40 million girls.'
Angelina Jolie sang Malala's praises during her speech, given in front of the likes of Meryl Streep and Diane Von Furstenberg, saying: 'The only thing that mattered to Malala was school. They shot her at point-blank range in the head—and made her stronger.”
After Jolie, who is the special envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, left the stage, Tina Brown announced that the actress had recently made a personal donation of $200,000 to the fund.
