The Things We Fight About

Marie Claire Lifestyle: Guru - The things we fight about - Kevin and Kate

Kevin Clifford, 30, is a stock controller. He is married to Katie, 31, a part-time events organiser. They live in East Sussex with their one-year-old son.

Kevin
‘When Katie and I got married we bought an old-fashioned cottage, but I didn’t know it would mean we’d have to live an old-fashioned lifestyle. I knew that my flashing Budweiser sign wouldn’t fit in, but I wasn’t prepared for Katie filling our home with baskets and flowery teacups. I used to have a mug with a pair of boobs on it but that mysteriously disappeared. The teacups take up all the room in our cupboards. When I broke one, she accused me of doing it deliberately, and we rowed about the clutter. She said that if I wanted to live like a bachelor, I was going the right way about it. I told her she was behaving like a bossy spinster. We made up the next day and I bought her a vintage rose-print crumpet rack.’

Katie
‘As a girl I collected tea sets and dreamed of getting married and living in a cottage with roses round the door. Both of us have worked hard so we can have that, so I don’t understand why Kevin doesn’t let me decorate as I please. If it were left to him, we’d have a chair shaped like a football next to the wood-burning stove. I admit I carried out a cull of his laddish mugs, but he does choose some stuff. Last year we had a floral calendar in the kitchen, but this year he picked a Rocky one. My collection is harmless. They’re all from fleamarkets and it thrills me to find them. I was delighted with the crumpet rack though. If he ever builds me the display shelves I’ve been asking for, it will have pride of place.’

Poor Kevin I presume he pays his fair share to Katie's dream house.. hmmm..surely he is entitled to his dream sanctuary as well or at least a fair compromise! Katie needs to lighten up and stop trying to force her lifestyle on Kevin or he will find a place where he can himself( i.e. not with her!) Give him a break!
I am a married woman and if my husband c"culled" my magazines, I would be furious!
Katie sounds like a nag, build your own shelf, woman!
