It's time to circle the 8th of June 2018 in your diaries, because that's the newly-announced release date for the much-hyped, all-female Ocean's Eight movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Production is scheduled to begin this month in New York, and suffice to say, we're super excited.
The cast is already looking like a killer line up. Just how many major female artists can one producer possibly cast in a single movie? The answer, so far, is seven, but as the new film Ocean’s Eight’s title suggests, there’s still room for one more amazing actress to be announced in the coming weeks.
And most recently, Sarah Paulson has been rumoured to be filling that coveted eighth spot - according to Deadline, the actress is currently in talks to join the kick-ass female cast.
So far, an incredible roster has been announced for the film, which starts production in October and will be the first female-led incarnation from the iconic Ocean’s 11 franchise.
Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina (aka rapper and actress Nora Lum) and Rihanna are all expected to front the film, creating all kinds of #SquadGoals that we never knew could be possible.
That means three Oscar winners (Cate, Sandra and Anne) plus one double nominee (Helena) plus who even can count what’s in Rihanna’s trophy cabinet, will all be joining forces for a female-led action film. That’s something to celebrate, isn’t it?

The last three Ocean’s films grossed a collective $1.12 billion worldwide, but were, of course, all fronted by George Clooney, Brad Pitt and co. The 1960s original, too, was dominated by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and the rest of the Rat Pack. So, to sum up, we can’t wait to see our favourite female-leads in action.
All that’s left to think about is that one spot left to fill. Who do you think should complete the Ocean’s 8 cast? Tell us what you think on Twitter, @MarieClaireUK.
