Diane von Furstenberg Catwalk Report S/S 2008

DVF BIG

ENIGMATICALLY ENTITLED 'UNDER the Volcano', Diane von Furstenberg's spring collection was an upbeat mélange of silk beach dresses, billowing, sheer blouses and safari suits.

Her models, showcasing glistening sunkissed skin and with flowers tucked behind their ears, strode confidently down the catwalk to a holiday soundtrack of Wham!, Gloria Gaynor and South Pacific's I'm gonna wash that man right outta my hair.

Their outfits were as empowering as the soundtrack: all sexy, summery textures, which skimmed and flattered the figure, and rich, tropical shades that lit up the catwalk.

Ensuring the DvF woman had everything to take her jauntily from her private beachside retreat to the water's edge, there were cotton shorts, low-cut swimsuits and jersey kaftans, alongside ethereal, goddess gowns, raw silk T-shirt dresses and skirts.

Of course, it wouldn't be DvF if there weren't a few wrap dresses thrown into the mix. Next season, the office staple has been given a holiday makeover and comes in shantung silk or chiffon in the hottest of pinks or gold.

Gloria may have been singing 'I will survive', but 'Under the Volcano' spoke of a woman firmly in control of her life.
