The best season ankle boots to go with everything

The catwalk may have been awash with thigh-high boots recently, but make no mistake, the ankle boot still reigns supreme. 

Nothing heralds the start of autumn like a new pair of boots and the high-street is awash with them, showcasing some exciting styles that'll go with everything (is there a better investment than that?).

As a fashion editor, I was lucky enough to see some of my favourite shows and get up close and personal with the new trends, so if you're looking to freshen up your footwear for 2024, here are the key boot styles worth investing in.

Cowboy boots

Thanks in no small parts to Margot Robbie's cowgirl Barbie get-up and TikTok's Coastal cowgirl trend, the western footwear is still very much relevant for 2024. 

Seen during previous seasons at Isabel Marant, Celine, Ganni, Chloe and Molly Goddard to name just a few, it's the ultimate in cool-girl footwear and surprisingly easy to blend in with your everyday wardrobe (I don't recommend going full-on cowgirl like Margot unless it's Halloween). Team them with oversized jeans and a blazer for that ultimate French girl look.

Chelsea boots

You can't really call it a trend when it never goes out of style, so I'll just say that if you're going to invest in one pair of boots forever then make it the Chelsea boot. Said to take their name from the avant-garde and artistic set that resided in London's Chelsea area in the 60s, the boots are known for tight-fitting, sleek and elegant silhouette which explain their timelessness.

Biker boots

Chunky, track sole boots have been a staple for the past few seasons now, with The Row's zip-front boots and Balenciaga's lug sole styles at the forefront of the trend - and they're so popular they've been restocked by the likes of Matches and Net-A-Porter for yet another season. For this season, they've been re-imagined slightly, in particular I'm loving Moncler's heeled take as well as Brunello Cucinelli's cosy knitted boots.

Heeled boots

Heeled boots are a versatile day-to-night option which will easily take you from the office to the pub. This season is all about kitten heels and a pointy toe, as seen at Toteme, Khaite, Acne Studios and Balenciaga.

Metallic boots

A residual of the dopamine dressing trend, disco boots were one of the most Instagrammed trend on the catwalk during February's fashion weeks. Remember those Saint Laurent glitter boots circa 2017? Think a slightly more toned down version, in liquid gold and silver.
