Prada
Prada was founded by Mario Prada in 1913 as a luxury leather good company. The design house developed into the brand it is today when Mario's granddaughter Miuccia reluctantly inherited the reigns of the company in 1978. With no previous interst in fashion, Miuccia had spent the previous 5 years of her life studying mime but she quickly proved herself to Italy's fashion crowd.
In 1989, Miuccia showed the first Prada ready-to-wear collection and immediately established the label as an industry leader, a position it still firmly holds today.
A diffusion line, Miu Miu debuted in 1992 as a cheaper more bohemian younger sister to the main line.
