Last night marked my first ever photo shoot for Marie Claire (more of this later) and more importantly, the loss of my Louboutin virginity. One may find it hard to believe, but despite the fact I work at a fashion magazine and am surrounded by all manner of lovely shoes on a daily basis, never before have my size fives stepped into a pair of the fabulous red-soled platforms.

The shoes in question were a pair of black courts with six-inch heels. 'Bedroom shoes', my colleague called them, seeing as any near normal person would find it impossible to walk in them, let alone climb stairs, bend down in them, you know, do simple things like open the bin. It made sense that celebs rely on assistants last night, when I found putting down a champagne glass on a small plinth a hellish task. So when I say 'stepped', I refer only to the art of putting these things on. There was no walking involved, partly because one scuff could see me making our managing editor very angry indeed.

So anyway, there I was at the Fashion and Design Museum's Little Black Dress Party, not only turning my hand to modelling in six-inch heels (eek!) but having my picture taken for a magazine read by thousands, next to the party host, Erin O'Connor. Yup, give me six-inch heels, then stand me next to a six foot supermodel. You can imagine.

Nevertheless, after me bleating 'Oh Erin, show us how to do it!', we got through it - me and two other Marie Claire girlies that is - all of us being shot for our 20th Birthday issue (the dress fitting afternoon is a whole other story). We even got to meet Zandra Rhodes and have a squeeze of her Scot doggy-shaped bag.

So we tried (to cut it like really good-looking people), and you'll really have to wait until the September issue to see the results. Meanwhile I will have gone into hiding and woefully returned those lovely, lovely shoes.

Little Black Dress (an exhibition charting the development of the LBD from the 1920s to the present day) runs at the Fashion & Textile Museum from 20 June- 20 September.

Have your say ...
