Dickens Unplugged

I think I'm one of the few people who didn't watch the BBC's I'd Do Anything recently. As a general rule, I'm not a big musicals fan. Even the multi-award-winning Wicked left me cold.

However, last Thursday night I threw caution to the wind and went to see Dickens Unplugged - a musical about, you guessed it, Dickens. Or, more to the point, Dickens' books, including - ironically enough - Oliver Twist.

And you know what? It was fabulous. Starving orphans, poverty and doomed marriages might not sound like a recipe for rolling-in-the-aisles hilarity, but thanks to five very funny guys - playing men, women, children, you name it - it really was.

If you have a basic knowledge of Dickens' works, you'll appreciate some of the songs a little more, but even if you don't, a better introduction to his oeuvre I couldn't quite imagine.

Go see…

PS It's only on until 29 June so get your booking in quickly.

Have your say ...
