Best-known for her role as man-eating, confident New Yorker Samantha Jones in Sex and the City, Kim Cattrall was actually born in Liverpool to Shane Cattrall, a housewife, and Dennis Cattrall, a builder.
The family emigrated to British Columbia, Canada, when Kim was less than a year old, but she returned to go to acting school when she was 11, heading back to Canada at 16.
Upon graduating high school, Kim swapped Canada for the bright light-lure of New York, and immediately secured a movie deal. Admitting that she’s ‘been playing sexually aware women most of my life’ (Porky’s, 1982, Police Academy, 1984, Mannequin, 1987) she was well-equipped to play Samantha Jones when she was cast in 1998. So much so, the role garnered her a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress and numerous Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
Her private life has been nearly as colourful as her on-screen characters: she’s been married three times, to Larry Davis, Andre J. Lyson and Mark Levinson, whom she divorced in 2004, and has been dating Canadian chef toyboy Alan Wyse ever since.
