Miami-born Eva Mendes was raised in Los Angeles by her Cuban-American parents. She has worked her way up through the acting ranks, starting out appearing in TV commercials, then starring in music videos including Will Smith's Miami, The Pet Shop Boys video That's The Way Life Is and Aerosmith's Hole In My Soul.
After landing roles in lesser-known movies including Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror, Eva finally got her big-screen break in the award-winning and critically-acclaimed Training Day opposite Denzel Washington.
The performance showed Hollywood what Eva was really capable of and landed her roles in Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Stuck On You before her lead performance came in the Will Smith comedy, Hitch.
Eva has been in a long-term relationship with Peruvian film producer, George Auguston and at the end of January 2008 was admitted to rehab in Utah to combat problems of substance abuse.
