Kate was born in London in 1973 into an acting family - her mother and father were both stage and television actors. Her first role came in One Against the Wind in 1991, a television film about World War II. She began studying French and Russian literature at Oxford Univesity, but never finished the degree as her acting ambitions took over.
It was 2001's war epic, Pearl Harbour, that accelerated Kate onto the international stage and she has since appeared in high-profile films playing Ava Gardner in The Aviator and a vampire in Underworld.
Kate is married to Underworld director, Len Wiseman, and has a daughter Lily from her previous relationship with Michael Sheen.
