The Queen of Pop was born in Michigan in 1958. Nearly 50 years later Madonna has ten hit albums under her belt, selling more than 200 million albums worldwide. She has also published coffee table books including the much-talked-about SEX, as well as more recently beginning a series of children's books, The English Roses.
Madonna's forays into acting have not ben as successful, however she did win a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Eva Peron in Evita.
The Material Girl married Sean Penn in 1984 but the couple divorced in 1989 and after giving birth to her first daughter, Lourdes in 1994, by her fitness trainer Carlos Leon, Madonna met and had her second child, Rocco, with film director Guy Ritchie in 1999. The couple married a year later.
In 2006 Madonna and Ritchie filed adoption papers for a Malawian baby boy, David Banda Mwale. After the official Malawi law of eighteen months as foster parents, it is believed the adoption is imminent. Recent reports say the pair are now planning to adopt a second Malawian child.
